Hi, I'm Tim Vanni, your candidate for
Porterville City Council District 3

Why Am I Running?

I am running for City Council to help “Our Community First” and share a vision that can help all citizens grow and prosper. The City of Porterville has given me a great deal during my life here. Our community is one of giving to our youth, schools, and businesses. I am looking forward toward continuing our growth in a positive way. I have been helping our youth in their education and of course wrestling skills, as well as cross country and golf. I may not be the most popular coach with respect to some students, athletes, and parents but I always work to achieve a higher standard of achievement by those I work with.

My main goals are to help our City Council spend our tax dollars efficiently, bring more economic development to create more jobs and support our local businesses, help our Police and Fire Departments keep our community safe, and I will support our City workers, continue to help our city improve our roads, and work with staff to grow our Parks and Recreation Programs.

As I learn more with regards to the needs of our citizens, businesses, schools, industry, Tule Indian Tribe, and future direction of development I will get a clearer picture of how I can help lead our city to a more prosperous, and friendly community.

Who I Am.

I started school at Alta Vista until our family moved west to Burton. I am a graduate of Monache High School and take great pride in my upbringing and I am proud to be from Porterville. I graduated college from Cal State University Bakersfield in 1984. I coached at CUSB 1984-1987. I then coached in Einsiedeln, Switzerland for 6 months in 1987. I moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., to train and coach at Arizona State from December 1987 until I accepted the job teaching at Porterville High School. My coach Drew Williams thought we could build a good rivalry. I was offered a dream job with USA Wrestling in 2002 but turned it down to stay at our city’s namesake Porterville High School. I could not leave the kids at Porterville. I felt then as I do now, I still owe the City of Porterville. So here after 40 years of coaching and still going, I am choosing to give back to Porterville in every way I can as your candidate for city council.
